I grew up in Ireland, and if you go there, it won’t be long until you see some animals. Cows. Sheep. People from Dublin (just joking!).

However, dogs are the most common pets in Ireland, so let’s look at the most popular dogs in my country!

1. Golden Retriever

• The most popular dogs in Ireland. They are kind and quite clever.
• They are very friendly and good with children, so they are great family dogs.
• If you visit an Irish family’s home, there is a good chance they will have a pet golden retriever!

2. Mongrel

• Mongrels are a mix of many different kinds of dogs, so every dog is different!
• They are usually healthier than purebred dogs, and cheaper too, so they are perfect for many households.

3. Cockapoo

• These dogs are a mix of cocker spaniels and poodles.
• They are smart and loyal. They also love toys!
• I never saw any when I was growing up, but recently they have become popular!

4. Jack Russell Terrier

• These dogs are small, but very brave! They love adventure and are full of energy.
• They are also easy to train as they are so smart.

5. Shih Tzu

• These dogs are very gentle.
• They are kind and patient with children.
• They’re good if you have allergies because their hair doesn’t fall out as much as some other dogs!
